Santé D'Or Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue organization, specializing in natural healing and care. We are a no-kill animal rescue. The mission of Santé D’Or Foundation is to rescue and provide shelter and holistically-based medical care to animals, while attempting to secure them permanent homes. We act as an educational resource in our community through our rescue and adoption services and community outreach efforts. Our organization is run by our executive director, and entirely staffed by volunteers. For information on volunteer opportunities with Santé D’Or, please visit the volunteer page.

We are located in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles, California, and we serve the Southern California area, primarily the Los Feliz, Hollywood, Atwater and Silver Lake neighborhoods. We work with local animal trainers, communicators and healers to ensure that our animals are emotionally and physically well.

Santé D’Or Foundation was founded in the summer of 2002. Our founders were also once volunteers, who through their years of volunteer experience learned how to handle the daily operations of a rescue and acquired valuable skills in helping and healing animals. It was then that they decided to create their own rescue. They formed a board and began a small operation with a plan to extend their rescue efforts to all kinds of animal companions, as well as to educate and support the people who care for animals. They called the rescue “Santé D’Or,” or “Golden Health” in French.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Annenberg Foundation and donations from individuals like you, we moved to our own space at 4511 West Sunset Boulevard in early 2007. This move has allowed us to begin working on longer-term objectives: to enhance our capacity to rescue and place animals; to develop stronger relationships in the community; and to expand existing school humane education outreach programs regarding humane animal care and safety.

This website includes information about animal adoption and wellness as well as volunteering and donating opportunities. Please come visit the rescue for more information, and to meet the animals in person. When considering adoption through Santé D’Or, please feel free to ask us as many questions as you’d like.

Our goal is to rescue needy animals, restore their health and find them permanent and loving homes.

Our Philosophy

In taking care of animals, we must take into account their whole being. Many of our animals arrive at the rescue in a sub-optimal state, often affected by a combination of stress, neglect, and anxiety, and sometimes abuse. Our philosophy is that with patience, proper care, natural diet and supplements, animals are often capable of self-healing. We attempt, through a variety of holistic therapies (in conjunction with veterinary care), to assist the animals as they regain their health. Ongoing good health is supported through nutrition of mind, body and spirit.

Our Goals

Santé D’Or plans to continue to build upon our hands-on healing and care services for animals. We currently offer a variety of services, including adoptions and nutrition and behavioral advice. With the help of more grants and donations, we expect to be able to continue increasing the breadth of services and offerings to the community. If you are interested in aiding us in these efforts, please go to the Volunteer page and the Donate page for more information on how you can help.
