  Animal of the Month

diego rescue catANIMAL OF THE MONTH

Greetings. I am JACK! My feline roommate Monkey and I were left behind when our human moved away. A kind neighbor brought us here to Sante D'Or. Monkey was adopted right away. He really wanted to be an only cat. Me? I dig everybody!

So now it's my turn, please! Check me out--perfect tuxedo coat, amber eyes, rockin' Harley Davidson collar. I am about three years old, the perfect age! I love a lap, jumping toys and warm sunny windows. I get along with all the cats and puppies and even the rabbits here at Sante D'Or, but am also fine and independent on my own.You may not know Jack--but you should! Adoption days are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 PM. Come by and say hi!

INCREASED NEED IN TOUGH TIMES

Sante D'Or depends upon your charitable donations and the kindness of our supporters to help us continue our mission to help stop the needless deaths of companion animals through our adoption, education and outreach programs.

Like everyone else, the economic situation has hit us hard, both in fundraising dollars and the number of animals we have seen in peril such as dogs and cats who are the helpless victums of these hard times.

The increase of calls we have received for assistance has been overwhelming, a problem which will only increase because of the lack of appropriate funding for spay and neutering programs. We're trying to do as much as we can. Just last month we took in 12 kittens from one person who saved 3 female cats from the street but couldn't afford to have them spayed. They ALL had litters. The next weekend, another 14 needed rescuing, again from someone who tried to do the right thing by taking in females but NOT having the money to spay them.

We have also taken in a dog and 2 more adult cats who were left outside our door in a box because the people could no longer afford to care for them. There were 2 others abandoned in the same way in teh last 2 months! We must spay and neuter all of these animals to help do our part to stop the vicious cycle from continuing, but the expense is staggering. And then there is the costs of testing each one, deworming and the necessary first vaccines.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who continues to give what they can to help us save and care for as many animals as we can.
