Discovering Santé D'Or in my neighborhood was truly a gift from heaven. I contacted them mid-2007 to volunteer as a cat petter while battling a serious health issue. The amount of love that goes around here between humans and purrers is the most powerful, healing energy I've ever experienced. Thank you Santé D'Or! Thank you kitties!!

VOLUNTEER

Looking for a more fulfilling way to spend your free time? Volunteer with us! It's a great way to make new friends while helping homeless animals find new homes. Whether you’re new to town, retired, a student, or just an animal lover with extra love to give, one of our programs can use your help. There are so many ways you can share in the fun and rewarding work of caring for animals.  Weekday, weekend, day or evening, you can commit to as little or as much time as fits your schedule – we always appreciate any help!

Sante D'Or volunteer

Board Member Charlotte Kennedy became involved with Santé D’Or as a trusted volunteer.

Santé D'Or is proud to have rescued and placed hundreds of cats and dogs (as well as rabbits and even a few chickens!) in caring new homes. Since moving to our new space in early 2007, we have been able to increase our size and our hours of operation – and that means we need more help! There are always plenty of kittens, cats, rabbits and dogs who need socializing, grooming, and just plain affection.

Want to lend a hand?  Come by and visit and tell us how you might like to contribute. As a volunteer you can do many things to help us continue rescuing and caring for our animals. We have several volunteer functions and shifts available (see below), or you can just come by and play with the critters when you have time.  Please stop by to watch us in action and see if volunteering is for you!

To volunteer, call (323) 898-8889 or email: info@santedor.com

Here are some of our volunteer functions.  If you have a particular talent or skill that we missed below, please give us a call or stop by to talk with us about your ideas. We look forward to brainstorming with you!

Foster!

volunteer opportunity

There are so many animals that need to recover from illness, neglect or mistreatment before they can go to permanent homes. To speed the recuperation process, we try to place them into caring real-life temporary home environments, to “foster” their adjustment and development.

Sometimes we have to turn away animals just because we are overcrowded. Our space constraints mean we especially need foster homes for cats and dogs during the week.

By fostering, you not only experience the fun and gratification of an animal companion without a lifelong commitment, you also give us the chance to rescue more animals. We cover all expenses, including food, litter, cages and medical care; you provide the love and attention. Come talk to us about your circumstances: these placements can be as short as a week or as long as until adoption, as the foster family sees fit. Stop by and see if any of our critters are right for you.

If you need assistance with a lost or stray animal you have found, please contact us by calling (323) 788-3638 or email us at
info@santedor.com. Information will be obtained regarding the animal needing placement.

At this time, we are only able to  maintain a limited number of animals and still meet standards of health and care. Regrettably, we are unable to accept aggressive dogs or animals with communicable health conditions.

Another option, if the animal may stay with you in the short term, is fostering: you need only bring the animal for adoption days on Saturdays and Sundays and care for him or her during the week until adoption is achieved.

Volunteer

You could help us feed, pet and groom animals, clean cages, and learn more about animal rescue operations. You can schedule a regular shift by the week or month, or just show up when you have time!

Adoption Counselor

After some time, you might be interested in learning about how we advise prospective adopters.  Adoption counselors are responsible for making a match between an animal and the adoptive family. With so many animals, each one has a different personality and need. The same goes for human families! You can help make sure that each animal is placed into the proper home and help educate adopters about what to expect from the adoption experience.

Community Outreach Coordinator

To provide more ways to find homes for our animals, we also bring them to community outreach events at pet supply stores in the Los Feliz area. You can help manage these offsite events.

Junior Volunteer

As a junior volunteer, you will be asked to spend a regular weekend shift with us once a week, with the permission of a parent or guardian. Help feed the animals, clean the cages, and give them the training and attention they need!  School credit available.

Photographer

The best way to help animals find a home is to get their photos and biographies online! If you have a passion for taking photos, digital camera equipment, and would like to snap cute pictures of adorable kittens, puppies, cats and dogs, then this is for you!

Data Base Manager

Our adoption records must continually be kept organized and up to date. If you have skills with Excel or other online database tools, this is an ongoing project we always need help with.

Graphic Designer

As an ever-growing organization, Santé D'Or could use the services of a graphic designer to help us maintain our website as well as to develop brochures, flyers, and all sorts of printed materials for special events.

General Handy-person

Santé D'Or rents our space and we occasionally need help building and maintaining cages, tables, and any other upkeep necessary to make our rescues and adoptions run smoothly.  If you have some power tools and free time, we would love to have you on our list of folks we can call!

Vet and Vet Technician

With so many animals rescued on a weekly basis, it isn't uncommon for us to find animals who urgently need medical attention. Although we already work with local veterinarians, if you are (or know of) a veterinarian who can volunteer some hours, we can always use more veterinary help.  And if you know of a source for medical supplies, we certainly appreciate discounts or any other support help available!

Remote Telephone Receptionist

You can help us return phone calls and make sure that everyone gets prompt answers to their questions about animal adoption. Don't worry - we provide full training! If you have an hour a week or so to spare you can volunteer from the comfort of your own home or office.
